We'll Have A Gay Old Time

So gay marriage, California, blah blah blah. That's all very well, but the California court made a glaring oversight in their ruling. After reading the decision I failed to find reference to this serious issue. And so I pose this life-or-death question to the lawmakers:

If a gay couple registers in California and then returns to their home state will their friends and family be obligated to purchase gifts for them even if they can't actually have the wedding in their state of residence?

As always, happy to bring the serious issues to light.

You boys go ahead and get your CA marriage. We'll get a gift for you, no matter where you get married!

Hey, we've been doing 'civil union' down here for a little bit now (New Zealand). It's not marriage but it's at least a start. And we do like parties! .... oh and pressies :-)

Come on up to Vancouver. You can have a real wedding, drink real beer and still have pressies. And we'll even take your money at par. Ain't that neighbourly?

Of course they will. Otherwise you just disown them all.

I think you just missed that in the opinion, MAK. As I read the opinion, citizens of other states are now ORDERED to give presents to those who come to California for their big gay weddings. I'm pretty sure that's enforceable.
