Update: The surgeon gave me a clean bill of health. He removed the packing from the abscess and declared that it's healing nicely. I'm still in a fair amount of pain but he said the healing should speed up quite a bit now. I'll just need to rest as much as possible for the next two days and be careful not to overexert myself at the start of our trip. So that's good news.

And in other "How My Medical Life Continues To Get Weirder" news, I got my lab results back from my regular doctor. Believe it or not, my cholesterol is TOO LOW. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
