Los Gorditos

Due to the curse of the theatre world, it's unusual for us to know exactly how long K. will be employed. It's even more unusual for us to know what his next job will be. And it's downright unheard of for us to know far enough in advance to be able to plan a proper vacation. So we're very, very lucky to know that he will have one week off in between projects during the first week of December.

Accordingly, K. and I just booked a five night Caribbean getaway to Playa del Carmen on the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. We're staying at a five star all-inclusive resort on the mainland, a quick ferry trip away from Cozumel. We're already entranced by the pictures of the white sand beaches and crystal blue water, and looking forward to doing some snuba diving, windsurfing and sun tanning.

We have two months to get our pasty, puffy white asses into beach shape. I got myself off to a great start today. This morning I cooked us a nice high protein breakfast of steak and eggs (and my trusty Vytorin to make sure said high protein diet doesn't kill me). After some chores I did my 8 Minute Abs workout and hauled myself up to the gym. I did a good half-hour of cardio and a half-hour of lifting. Not a bad start.

Then I came home and ate half a bag of potato chips and the rest of a box of rosemary-olive oil Triscuits.

Mmmmm, those are some of my favorite Triscuits (a non-UK treat if ever there was one).

Look into a one-day "try scuba" package in Cozumel.

The guys at Scuba Club are great (they certified me and Larry) and have a one-day course. You'd love it.

Can't believe you'd rather do that than come to London and see Caroline, or Change for the 7,452nd time.

Small steps grasshopper. Small steps.

You're just cleaning out your kitchen of all that bad stuff, that's all. It's a good step.

My husband and I did a one-day scuba thing in Playa del Carmen years ago on our honeymoon. It was totally worth it.
