MAK's Mooment #8

On Tuesday night I found myself in Battery Park City for the first time.

Our choir - the tenors and basses, at least - is performing down there at the Museum of Jewish Heritage next week. It's not often that one gets to be a part of a world premiere. Especially in classical music. I'd invite you all to attend, but it's already sold out.

I got down to the museum very early, so I took the opportunity to wander around the area. I was surprised by the beauty of it all, even on a cloudy, murky evening. The walkways, gardens, piers. I loved it.

I sat down on a bench and stared across the harbor towards New Jersey. Not the most beautiful sight on a gray day. Well, not the most beautiful sight on any day, but it was either that or the Statue of Liberty and, frankly, she bores me. After the chaos of the past few weeks, I easily got lost in rhythm of the waves slapping against the pier and zoned out.

Just then, the clouds to the west started to break ever so slightly and a warm sunset started to break through.

It was pretty and warm and calming. And just what I needed to lighten my mood before having to sing Shostakovich for the next three hours.

Battery Park is quite lovely. I'm surprised that this is the first time you've been there! Glad you made it!

That's an amazing museum. The idea of actually singing there - Shostakovich, no less - gives me chills. What an experience that's going to be.

Break a leg.

Joel and I and my friends Nadia and Matt will be in the audience. It will be great to see!
