K. has landed himself a fancy new gig as production stage manager on a new play by a major playwright. Rehearsals start in mid-April, complete with a cast to die for. In the meantime, since his previous Broadway show folded last month, he's been busy subbing on a new musical of epic proportions which will open on Broadway in the next few weeks. To reward himself for his well-executed career moves, and to take advantage of some time together before I'm a theater widow once again, we've decided to take a little last-minute spring vacation.
So, who can recommend a good place to stay in Fort Lauderdale?
Posted by mak at March 15, 2006 9:15 PMI don't know about Florida, but I've got a great place for you to stay in El Paso, TX and lots of hot Army boys playing in the sand to boot!
Posted by: Jenn at March 15, 2006 10:00 PMYou could stay with my dad. He always has lots of beer on hand. Actually, I would recommend you go to Hawaii instead. But I get it -- Ft Lauderdale is more affordable, an easier commute, and somehow it's acquired this reputation for it's gay tourism. Stay as close to Las Olas Blvd (downtown and towards the beach) as possible. BTW, you'll have to rent a car to enjoy it in any way and plan on spending most of your time in the car (the traffic is awful). On a positive note, it's a good time of year, weather-wise there. Oh and wear sunscreen ... all the time!!!!
Posted by: Brian at March 16, 2006 2:14 AMHow about West Palm Beach? I don't remember the name of it but there's a resort or hotel there where they film porn. All the guests get a free video.
Posted by: Craig at March 16, 2006 10:44 AMGreat time to go honey. I was in FL last week and the weather was perfect. I spent a few in ORL and did my first visit to St. Pete's Beach on the west coast, which I highly recommend. I remember looking at an ad for a really awesome place in Ft. Lauderdale in one of the papers I picked up down there. I'll check it when I get home tonight and call/email you the info.
Posted by: John at March 16, 2006 1:00 PMI was just in Fort Lauderdale and stayed at the Cheston House, which was fine, save for the HUGE high rise going up right next door. It loomed over the clothing optional pool making at at once a wee bit chilly and strangely exciting to skinny dip with 100 construction workers looking on.
Look for resorts around N. Birch Road. They are all clean, nice, and a block from the Ocean. Further, they are close to the gay beach and there's a great waterfront outdoor upscale hotel bar right nearby as well.
