If This Is A Dream, Don't Wake Me

In a cab, on my way back from a great night out at the Eagle with him. The moon is huge and full as the cab carries me across the Queensboro Bridge. Reflecting its brilliance, the East River looks as if it is frozen solid, white as a glacier. It's mesmerizing.

I take a moment and turn around in the back seat of the cab, taking in the skyline as it shrinks behind me. The Empire State Building is already dark, but its silhouette is bold and powerful against the hazy night. The Chrysler Building gleams with a radiance I've never before noticed. And I think to myself, "My god, I'm in the middle of New York Fucking City."

Sometimes it hits me at the oddest moments. That I live in this insane city, surrounded by some of the best the world has to offer. And I wouldn't trade it for anything.

New York Fucking City.

When you get caught between the moon and New York City...

Wait... you were at the Eagle with Christopher Cross?

I can so identify, MAK. Being from Kansas originally, I get the same feeling whether I am standing in the middle of Times Square, walking the Upper East Side, or shopping in the Village. It's amazing. And when friends from home ask me if I really like living here (as if!) I have to look at them as if they are complete morons. I love this town. Everything else pales in comparison.

By the way, it was great to meet you Thursday. We're looking forward to doing it again!

Yeah, I'm jealous of your living situation actually.

Take the ferry to Ellis Island on a warm summer sunny day. Wait about five minutes after you pull away and then turn around and look at the city. It's the same feeling. Breathtaking. Seriously.

NYC to me is like a drug or booze - things can be the most beautiful ever, or the ugliest.

When I had lived in 2 other cities - the New Yorkers always seemed to find each other - we are a different breed, no matter where we come from it seems. I think we are fortunate.

The moon hanging over Big Ben and Westminster Abbey this weekend was so amazing.

I can identify with this as well.. coming from Wisconsin, moving to Chicago, seeing that gorgeous skyline and thinking... "Wow, I live in Chicago now!"

Of course you can't add the "Fucking" quite so effectively... unless you say "Chi-fucking-cago"...

Still... I get ya. :)
