Today finds me home from work, sick once again. Wasn't it just six weeks ago on a Wednesday that I was sick and waiting for the twins to bring me chicken soup? I can't begin to understand the phenomenon that is my immune system. It has a mind of its own, apparently. I don't mind the afternoon off. I just wish my body could have picked a day when they weren't tearing up the pavement on the driveway beneath our living room window. A sinus headache and the sound of jackhammers do not go hand in hand.
Last night's WYSIWYG Talent Show was an absolute hoot. Congrats to all of those who contributed. I'm especially proud of my boys Bob (who kicked off the festivities on a perfect note and set a high standard for the rest of the bunch) and Charlie (whose eleven o'clock number was a smash, second only to Elaine Stritch singing The Ladies Who Lunch...although Charlie has nicer arms). The always charming and more-adorable-than-ever Faustus treated us to a song he had written for the evening, and displayed an amazing range of talent that is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Well done, all.
In addition to the amazing talent onstage, the house was full of other bloggers. My usual boys, and then some, were there to support our friends. I also had the very special honor of having this lady as my companion for the evening, looking ravishing as always. She even dressed in black and white in honor of meeting Camille, who came along to the reading with me (unfortunately, the pictures we took of Camille didn't turn out). I met some new faces last night, too, and I apologize if I seemed flighty or confused, as I was crashing from the cold medicine buzz that had gotten me through the performances. I owe you all a coherent conversation and proper greetings.
Last night, for the first time outside of the GB:NY event, I was recognized by a reader. That was really kind of fun! I felt like a very minor celebrity for a minute. I didn't even think to ask his name or how he had come across my blog, but if the gentleman in question is reading this post today, thank you for saying hello!
Once again, congratulations to all of those who took part in the show last night. And I hope I didn't get you sick.
Posted by mak at June 23, 2004 1:07 PMI'm the guy who said "Hello" last night. I'm new to the gay blog scene and am enjoying it immensely. That show last night was especially wonderful. Thanks for being there. The last "celebrity" I recognized was Yul Bryner after standing behind him in a movie line for 20 minutes. That was a while ago.
Posted by: Joe at June 23, 2004 3:50 PMIsn't it strange to have someone out of the blue do that to you? Has to make you feel good. It's happened to me once so far. Yippeee! I had a stalker!
Posted by: mark at June 23, 2004 5:02 PMThanks for the post. Those of us out there in the hinterland are both envious and appreciative that somewhere in this wonderful world, bloggers can actually toast, laugh and smooch in real-time. Enjoy the fame, you earned it one post at a time.
