We had a short facilities meeting at work yesterday where Boss announced that there are going to be some changes. First among them is that I am getting my own private office. Finally, some material recognition for working so many weekends and overtime hours and holding three different job titles! I am quite pleased.
After the meeting, Boss and I were poking around in what is to be my new room, which at the moment is only used a half-day per week by our accountant. I have a huge window with a less than stellar view. It looks out onto 41st Street, over the Dylan Hotel (where Britney Spears' now-defunct Nyla restuarant used to be) and an organic deli. But it's a window nonetheless!
"It's your space now," Boss said, "So feel free to decorate however you want."
"What do you think about replacing these Long Island seascape paintings with, oh, say, pictures of Latinos in tank tops?" I suggested.
"Hmm, it would be a definite change of tone for our company." She paused for a moment, then smiled. "But one I'm not necessarily opposed to at all."
I knew I liked her for a reason.
