Paying My Respects

I'm doing alright today. Mellow, as can be expected, but better than last year. The city is quiet. You can see the reflection and sorrow in the eyes of those around you. You could hear a pin drop on the subway this morning (if only you could hear the conductor's announcements as easily).

I don't have the mental facilities to write a post that isn't related to today's anniversary. If you haven't already done so, read Tuesday's post instead.

Tonight, after seeing some New York theatre, I will be taking L. and T. to the World Trade Center. I'm not all that keen on visiting Ground Zero, having been far too many times already. The construction site feeling it holds today is so different and sanitized than it was for the first few months after the attack. I almost wish there were still ruined buildings there, so that tourists and visitors can appreciate the real scale of what happened two years ago.

But, the Tribute In Light will be lit and it will be beautiful. And I can quietly pay my respects in the dark, with my family by my side.
