Clinton Calling

Last night, I found a message from Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton waiting on my answering machine. It was a pleasant change from the routine messages I get in Spanish from Dr. Gonzalez's office, reminding somebody named Lucia of her appointments.

It turned out to be a pre-recorded message, asking me to vote against Question 3. For those of you outside of New York City, Question 3 is a proposition to eliminate party primary elections by having voters pick any candidate they like in a September election, and then the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, would then face off in the November general election. Senator Clinton pleaded for the demise of this issue, stating it would only eliminate the Democratic primary and give an edge to Republicans and wealthy political opponents.

I had planned to vote against this issue anyway, as nothing causes me more anxiety than the thought of two Republicans winning the September election and being forced to vote for one of them in November. Senator Clinton's desperate message didn't do much to further convince me. If anything, it made me a tad upset. Sure, I understand that she is a busy lady, but I think I'm worthy of a personal phone call. Who does she think she is? We could have had a lovely chat, conversing about everything from her political ambitions to her unfortunate hairstyle history. She'll never know what she missed out on.
